At the XXIII International Workshop on Bunt and Smut Diseases at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Uppsala (Sweden), researchers from all over were coming together to talk about bunt and smut. The workshop was conceived as a satellite workshop in connection with the 14th Conference of the European Foundation for Plant Pathology, see the event website 2025buntworkshop.wordpress.com !

Researchers networked with breeding researchers from other countries who are also working on fungal diseases. After two full days of just bunt and smut talk we can say that: Connections were built, results were discussed and a lot of fun with other “nerds” were had. These researchers are like a work family: they know each other, are welcoming and burning for their work.

The next workshop of this kind is scheduled to take place at the Julius Kühn Institute Quedlinburg in May 2027.
