Inhalt: Horticultural gardener (fruit growing)

Fundamentals

Training to become a fruit grower is a wonderful opportunity to experience nature up close while creating something sustainable. You will learn how to care for, plant, and harvest fruit trees—an activity that is not only fulfilling but also allows you to see the results of your work. It is a varied training program in which you will constantly discover new things and develop your skills.

You will also be helping to provide healthy and delicious fruit for many people. If you love nature and enjoy working outdoors, fruit growing is the perfect choice for you! What to expect

  • Professional fruit production for pome and stone fruit
  • Preparing and carrying out fruit tree planting
  • Working on the plants, e.g. winter pruning, summer pruning, thinning measures
  • Plant protection
  • Harvesting and preparation for marketing
  • Handling of machinery and equipment
  • Maintenance and care work
  • Basic nursery knowledge of fruit tree propagation

Training locations

  • Dossenheim
    - Institute for Plant Protection in Fruit Crops and Viticulture -
  • Dresden
    - Institute for Breeding Research on Fruit Crops - 

Pay

According to TVAöD (remuneration for trainees and interns in the public sector).

Vocational school, start and duration of training

In Dossenheim, you will attend the Johannes-Gutenberg-Schule Heidelberg during your first year of training,

and the Christiane-Herzog-Schule Heilbronn during your second and third years
Start of training: September 1

In Dresden, you will attend the Berufliche Schulzentrum Wurzen 
Start of training: August 1

The training program lasts  three years.
