Inhalt: Kooperationen des Fachbereichs ‚Vorratsschutz ‘ mit Afrika, Asien und Südamerika
Der Schutz der Vorräte ist seit jeher ein internationales Forschungsthema, nicht zuletzt, weil viele Pflanzenerzeugnisse, z.B. Kaffee, Kakao, Hülsenfrüchte, Gewürze und Reis, aus Übersee nach Deutschland eingeführt werden. In tropisch-warmen Klimaten ist der Schädlingsdruck durch Insekten oft ganzjährig hoch.
Da ab Mitte der 1990er Jahre kaum mehr Mittel für eine direkte Forschungskooperation vorhanden waren, entstanden in den letzten 25 Jahren Kontakte hauptsächlich durch Doktorand*innen und vom Deutschen Akademischen Austauschdienst, den jeweiligen nationalen Regierungen oder der Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung geförderte Aufenthalte von Gastwissenschaftler*innen.
So hatte der Vorratsschutz in den letzten 25 Jahren Kooperationen mit verschiedendsten Ländern in Afrika, Asien und Südamerika:

Viele Forschungsarbeiten befassen sich dabei mit der Eignung von Pflanzenschutzmaßnahmen, aufbauend auf natürlich vorkommenden und für den Anbauer in den subtropischen Regionen leicht zugänglichen Produkten.
So sind zum einen die biologische Wirksamkeit und der Wirkmechanismus bestimmter Pflanzenteile und –extrakte zum Schutz gelagerter Vorräte und zum anderen die Wirkung von bestimmten Pflanzenaschen, Kieselguren oder anderen austrocknenden Stäuben betrachtet worden. In Einzelfällen sind auch die Erkennung von Duftstoffen durch Insekten, die Lagerung unter Sauerstoffabschluss oder biologische Gegenspieler untersucht worden.
